Connected Devices RFI Opportunity

Con Edison is issuing an ongoing Request For Information (RFI) for new and innovative connected-device platforms and technology to offer our customers. The company is proud to support the development and deployment of emerging technologies that enhance customers’ experience while helping them use energy more efficiently. For example, in 2010, Con Edison partnered with a startup from NYC ACRE, the clean-tech incubator, to develop the Con Edison Smart AC Program, which enables customers to remotely control their room air conditioners.

For the purposes of this RFI, Con Edison defines a connected device as a “smart” device or an appliance that can be controlled remotely through the Internet, or as a platform or service that can integrate with and enhance existing connected devices. For this RFI, connected devices should not include base-building systems, unless the base-building system is required for the successful implementation of the connected device installation.

RFI Guidelines for Connected Devices

Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (“Con Edison”) is requesting information from qualified and experienced vendors capable of delivering innovative demand response and energy efficiency solutions utilizing scalable connected devices and Internet of Things (IoT) platforms.

This RFI solicits responses from qualified parties (“respondents”) stating their interest and qualifications to supply Con Edison with connected devices and/or customer- and utility-facing platforms for managing connected devices, or software platforms for managing connected devices. Respondents may submit additional technologies separately.

This RFI is not intended for third-party providers or integrators of connected devices not manufactured by the respondent, such as providing a solution for a third-party product. However, respondents should submit platforms that can integrate with connected devices and are device-agnostic for compatibility. Connected devices used for demand response must have the ability to integrate with an API of Con Edison’s choosing, such as the API from the Con Edison Demand Response Management System (DRMS), for the ease of dispatching demand response events.

All information is submitted voluntarily with the understanding that this RFI is for information-gathering purposes only and is not a formal solicitation.

Con Edison may not reply to each submission. Please do not contact Con Edison regarding your product submission. Con Edison will contact respondents if it requires additional information. Respondents with questions about how to submit the RFI can email CDP@coned.com.

This RFI does not create an obligation on the part of Con Edison to enter into any contract, or to serve as a basis for any claim whatsoever for reimbursement of costs for efforts expended by respondents. Furthermore, the scope of this RFI may be revised at the option of Con Edison at any time, or this RFI may be withdrawn or cancelled by Con Edison at any time. Con Edison shall not be obligated by any responses or by any statements or representations, whether oral or written, that may be made by Con Edison or its employees, principals, or agents.

Any exceptions to the terms, conditions, provisions, and requirements herein must be specifically noted and explained by the respondent in its response to the RFI. Con Edison will assume that any response to this RFI expressly accepts all the RFI terms, conditions, provisions, and requirements, except as expressly and specifically stated by the respondent in its response to the RFI.

Respondents agree to keep confidential all information provided by Con Edison in connection with this RFI.

Examples of Con Edison’s disclosure and standard terms and conditions can be found at Con Edison Supply Chain Terms & Conditions.
