Con Edison operates the largest district steam system in the United States. Our service and commitment to the environment has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency due to our use of highly efficient CHP systems which reduce energy use and lower greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
We are proud of our record and continue to adhere to the highest of environmental standards. Since 2014, 91% of our steam production comes as a result of burning natural gas, and we are on track to eliminate approximately 1.2M tons of CO2 per year. What's more, our steam A/C customers offer electric load relief of about 290 MW during the hottest days of the year, when the grid needs it the most.
